Each dog is bred to do a certain job, which
may include guarding, herding, hunting, running, digging or barking. And many people wonder why it’s
so hard to get their dog to stop doing those things! But with a proper training program, you can redirect
your dog’s naturally bred instincts into something more acceptable to you. This is done through any
number of the following:
New Puppy Orientation – This is a program for dogs four months
of age or younger. I will help you prepare your home for your new puppy. We will go
over proper nutrition, grooming, socialization, desensitization, housetraining and manners, along with some basic obedience
and problem solving.
Obedience –
You will teach your dog several or all of the following behaviors: sit, down, sit/stay, down/stay, come, heel, loose-leash
walking, heel, focus, leave it, drop it and socialization. These will help your dog to focus on you as
the leader and will help your dog to become better-behaved.
Problem Solving – You will tell me what your dog is doing that you don’t like, and we will give
him/her more acceptable behaviors instead. These problem behaviors can include eliminating in the house,
jumping on people or furniture, barking, nipping and mouthing, begging, stealing food from the counters, chewing and destruction,
digging, bolting and chasing.
Behavior Modification
– This is something you will need if your dog has a deeper issue, such as separation anxiety, isolation distress, dog
aggression, people aggression, resource guarding, fear, phobias, leash reactivity or you just need to introduce your new
dog to other pets. Aside from being caused by a medical condition, there is always a deeper, underlying
issue involved where behavior modification is needed. Behavior modification requires time and patience,
but can be successful.
All training listed above will be done in your home where your dog will benefit the most.
There will be an initial evaluation where you and I will review your dog's daily routine and go over any behavioral issues
that will need to be addressed. Then we will begin the training process where we will meet once a week at your home,
and I will teach you how to train your dog. After each hour-long session I will send you notes on what we discussed.
My goal is for you to have a dog that you can be proud of!
